The Scent of Spring: How I Created the Ostara Fragrance

The Scent of Spring: How I Created the Ostara Fragrance

There is a particular quality to the light in early spring that I find almost impossible to describe. It is not the bold warmth of summer, and it is not the flat grey of winter on its way out either. It is something in between. Clean. Full of possibility. The mornings feel different, the air smells different, and that shift has always felt like something worth pausing for.

That feeling is what I had in mind when I started putting the Ostara collection together.

Ostara is the Spring Equinox, one of eight turning points on the Wheel of the Year. It falls around the 20th or 21st of March, the moment when day and night are of equal length before the light gradually takes over. It has always been one of my favourite points in the seasonal calendar. Not a dramatic transformation, just a gentle beginning. And that is exactly the kind of feeling I wanted to capture in the fragrance.

When I am working on a new scent I always start with a feeling rather than a list of ingredients. With Ostara the words that kept coming back to me were bright, airy, sun-warmed. I wanted something that felt like stepping outside on a clear March morning, the kind where the air has changed overnight and you notice it the moment you open the door.

Bergamot came first. It is fresh and warm at the same time, citrusy without being sharp, and it opens a fragrance beautifully. For me, it just is spring.

Neroli is the heart of the blend. It comes from the blossom of the bitter orange tree and it is one of those ingredients I keep coming back to again and again. Floral but not heavy, with a gentle sweetness that feels genuinely natural rather than perfumed. In Ostara it brings that soft, sun-warmed quality I was looking for.

Lavender rounds everything out. I was careful with this one because lavender can easily take over if you are not paying attention. Used with a lighter hand it adds softness and a quiet herbal note that ties the whole thing together.

The Ostara collection comes in five products: a candle, a reed diffuser, a room spray, an aromatherapy blend and a soap bar. I wanted to give you different ways to bring that feeling into your day, whether that is lighting the candle on a quiet evening or just enjoying the scent in the shower. Small moments, but they do add up.

Spring is here. I hope Ostara helps you celebrate it.
